The Power Issue

Originating as a social media platform born from a collegiate dream, DRØME is a bi-annual publication dedicated to showcasing the voices of queer and feminist artists on the rise. Designed to speak for the silenced in mainstream media, DRØME offers a fresh, honest perspective on the arts, society, politics, and queerness.

Volume I of DRØME, curated by Caroline D'Arcy Gorman, promotes the power of the artist as an individual and non-conformist. Brooklyn-based, visual artist Carly Mark graces the cover of the issue, shot by Vogue photographer Thomas Whiteside, and discusses her experience with escapism and social media. Inside, readers will also find an exclusive interview with Grammy-nominated dance duo SOFI TUKKER, comedian Eric Wareheim dressed as a Haribo Gold-Bear, and an insider look into the secret Berlin nightlife scene.

What You’ll Find Inside DRØME’s inaugural issue:

[COVER STORY] Escape Artist: Carly Mark: Escapism—a trend, a lifestyle, an art. Growing up playing pokemon and watching anime, 28-year-old artist Carly Mark has not only crafted her own aesthetic, but her own universe. Dichotomy, Character Play, and Haribo— dive into the world of Carly Mark.

Ying & Yang: SOFI TUKKER: With a Grammy nomination for the duo’s hit track “Drinkee,” SOFI TUKKER has shot to the forefront of contemporary sound. Who is SOFI TUKKER? One thing is clear: Brown University grads Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern drop tunes that make the world dance.

Introducing Mister Wallace: Lili Peper's intimate portraits capture the nuance and novelty of Mister Wallace's identity as a performer. With tracks "It Girl" and "Faggot," Mister Wallace plays by nobody's rules but his own.

The Time of Undoing: Making the transition from early success as pre-teen band Smoosh, sisters Asy and Chloe Saavedra strike a new chord with Chaos Chaos, challenging conventional expectations of women in music along the way.

No Gender No Sesso: 'No Gender'? No problem for Pierre Davis' boundary-breaking, LA-based fashion label No Sesso. Loose knits, natural prints, and gender-bending silhouettes give modern urban style a breath of fresh air.

Herland: Katarah da Silva: Refusing to remain confined to one medium, queer Caribbean artist Katarah da Silva exemplifies artistic self-reliance. DRØME catches up with the recent Brown University graduate about growing up West Indian, creating a space for self-expression, and preaching #theNewPussyHallelujah.

Vivek Shraya: With ten solo albums, five books, and four films under her creative belt, 35-year-old Vivek Shraya is a creative force to be reckoned with. The artist talks changing pronouns and pushing past restrictive 'LGBT' labels.

Grooving Inside the Box, Thinking Outside of it: By day, Jayda Guy is an environmental toxicologist. By night, she spins tracks under the name 'Jayda G'. Worlds collide on dance floors around the globe.

Sound through Silence: Doe Paoro: Everyone wants the attention of indie-pop princess Sonia Kreutzer, otherwise known as Doe Paoro. Getting away from it all is her key to staying sane.

Berlin: Queer Mecca: Berlin has been long-known as a neon-lit haven for the queer club crowd. DRØME photographers descended into the city's deepest nooks and crannies to visually document the current state of Berlin's queer scene.
